Las Vegas Jewelry and
Gem Shows 2008
The Las Vegas Jewelry and Gem Shows are well underway
today.
The Las Vegas Jewelry and Gem Shows began on May 26 with the
Gem & Lapidary Dealers Association colored gem trade show at the Mirage.
Several other shows are being held at Wynn's, Bally's,
Rio, Palace Station, and additional locations in Las Vegas.
Another important colored gem show is the American Gem
Trade Association's Gemfair, This trade show is held in conjunction with the
JCK Show in the Venetian Grand Ballroom.
The finale is, of course, the gigantic JCK Show
itself. This is the show that attracted all of the other shows to Las Vegas.
The JCK Show is so large that it now is staged at both the
Sands Expo & Convention Center (connected to the Venetian Hotel) and the Las
Vegas Convention Center.
The JCK show features exhibitors that cater to every facet
of the retail jewelry industry. Jewelry, watch, and even leather and tabletop
goods manufacturers abound.
Distributors and manufacturers of display cases and
packaging are also popular stops for show attendees.
Jeweler's equipment and supplies also generate a lot of
interest. What ever a jewelry store operator or bench jeweler needs can be seen
and ordered here.
The other shows going on around town are theme trade
shows.:
Loose gemstones
Beads
Antique Jewelry and Watches
Couture
As you would expect, attendance at all these shows are
restricted to members of the jewelry and related trades.
If you operate a retail jewelry store, the JCK Show is
probably the most important trade show for you.
For those in the USA gem trade, these shows are probably
second only to the February Tucson Shows in importance.

Jewelry
Dealers
A recent article in a JCK
newsletter focused on the importance of keeping your customers.
The article made the point that you can reduce expenses
by selling (again) to those you have done business with
before.
To quote a snippet from the
article...
"Keeping your best customers
loyal to your store can be a cost-effective way to increase
business when compared with the expense and effort of
attracting new customers, said Kirsten Darrow, marketing
director of Fred Meyer Jewelers."
The point is just as valid for dealers that do not operate a
brick-and-mortar store.
While many of you develop new customers and thereby grow
your business through referrals from existing customers, other
methods are used by many.
Jewelry parties, exhibiting at flea markets, and traditional
advertising can be effective ways to recruit new customers, but
they all carry a cost.
